Custom Sonoff based on ESP8266 compatibility with SmartThings and IFTTT

IFTTT links different internet-connected devices and services together through a beautifully simple concept: “IF That Then This”. These links consist of just two elements: a Trigger (‘If That’) and an Action (‘Then This’).

Devices can be linked together, or used in conjunction with other online services, whether it’s the IFTTT Spotify channel, social media (such as Twitter and Facebook), your iPhone’s Location Services tool, or the Weather channel. SmartThings is a Channel within IFTTT.

Here’s how it works:

Sonoff is an affordable ESP8266 based device that provides users with smart home control. They consist of the ESP8266 Wi-Fi Chip plus additional circuitry.

Luckily, the UART pins are exposed on Sonoff switches so you can solder a 4-pin header and connect a USB to TTL to flash your own firmware. In order to enter programming mode, you have to hold down the push button while connecting the adapter to the computer (and powering up the ESP8266)

This is shown the step of connecting IFTTT with device handlers on SmartThings. It will be automatic without any control from SmartThings application (note: when you connect IFTTT with device handlers it has to be the same LAN).

Here’s how it works:

5. Choose a service that you want to action LINE and click “Connect” to link with your LINE account then choose action.

6. Click “Finish”
