4 Things You Should Consider to Help Unlock Your Full Potential

Here’s how to get closer to a better you.

I share a love and hate relationship with potential. The hope shines with promise. But potential can bring you deep sorrow when you’re blind to the red flags.

We see it in romantic relationships too. When I first started dating my significant other, I saw potential in him and vice versa. However, we started dating at 19. In our late 20s, I wouldn’t base any successful relationship on potential. Call it harsh, but that ship sailed. I’ve found myself, what I value, and I wouldn’t want to marry someone with different values or priorities.

Seeing potential in others helps us to apply the same logic to ourselves. When you’re able to harness your potential, that means something. We can have potential, but it's worthless if we don’t do anything about it to upgrade to results.

When I turned 25, a flood of maturity knocked me off my feet. I experienced significant changes in my life. The past few years culminated in a final storm from financial burdens, moving, declining health. So I put my potential on pause. I don’t regret it. You could argue it’s normal. Pushing too hard when you’re trying to keep afloat with life’s responsibilities may only drown you faster.

After taking wrong turns and small steps, I’m in a much better place. The changes started with slowly shifting my mindset to a more positive approach. But thinking can only do so much — results need to occur too.

Here are five things you should consider to help you reach your full potential.
