As the coronavirus pandemic begins to wind down, frontline workers are being rightfully praised. This includes the doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel who put their lives on the line to combat the novel virus. Much has been written about them and many people are scrambling to figure out a way to reward them for their efforts.

Despite the drive to find a way to give them a little something extra, there are some people who are not happy with how long these steps are taking. Some of the people are even going so far as to take find their incentive themselves.

One New York City nurse took matters into her own hands. She now faces serious felony charges for her troubles.

Danielle Conti is a nurse at Staten Island University Hospital North. She began her career there in 2007. Conti was quite popular with coworkers, as well as patients.

As the pandemic began hitting Staten Island hard, her work hours increased. On April 9, the NYC borough added 1,200 covid-19 cases by itself. It is also the day that Conti decided to steal a credit card from a 70-year-old man, who was slowly dying of the novel virus.

Anthony Catapano was in a medically induced coma and fighting the coronavirus. Conti helped herself to his credit card as he was fighting the illness.

Tara Catapano, the victim’s daughter, told reporters that she was surprised by Conti’s actions. In an emotional statement, she said: “I can’t believe a person could do something like that to someone fighting for his life, This is a nurse who took an oath to treat, protect and save patients. It’s disgusting … Never in a million years did I expect any of this to happen.”

Tara Catapano looked at her father’s credit card bill and noticed there were some weird charges. There were charges at a grocery and convenience store that totaled $60.23. What caught her eye was the date: April 9, 2020. Her dad couldn’t have made or authorized those charges. He was in the hospital fighting covid-19.
