How to migrate from AWS WAF Classic to WAF v2

The goal of this article is to share my experiences in migrating from AWS WAF Classic to WAF v2. Since I haven’t come across an article which mentions the steps, most of them contain information which is already part of AWS WAF Documentation. I assume you are familiar with using AWS WAF Classic, hence shall try to avoid standard definitions, but shall provide the links for reference.

What is AWS WAF ?

AWS WAF is a web application firewall that lets you monitor the HTTP(S) requests that are forwarded to an Amazon CloudFront distribution, an Amazon API Gateway REST API, or an Application Load Balancer.

Migration Process:

Use the Migration Wizard to migrate your WebACL’s from WAF Classic.

Once the stack runs successfully, you can go to WAF v2 and check your WebACL to confirm that all Rules have been migrated.

Issues I Faced while running the CloudFormation Stack:

Rate exceeded (Service: Wafv2, Status Code: 400, Request ID: 2xxxxxx4-xxxa-xxxx-xx6e-xxxxxxxxxxx, Extended Request ID: null)
