When Art Speaks.

As I turned frantically through the pages of my old dusty sketch book, searching for some artistic inspiration to beat time during this quarantine process, I came across this Blade Painting done by me back in class 7, around 9 years back.

Juxtaposing the picture that 12 year old Annabelle built in her mind when she thought about it in paper, a peaceful community, with lush green trees, blue sky, turquoise waters and high mountains, to the world we live in today, with chaos, uncertainty, fear and malice. A world of green rather transformed to a house of viruses.

Thinking about the gravitas of the situation made me understand the importance of life and all its potential outcomes. A 14-day lock down made me think of how lightly we take waking up safe every new day, and now we wake up with news of the number of affected COVID-19 patients. It also makes me miss listening to the loud laughter of friends and feeling the tight hugs of a loved one. The daily train commute, or the all-time favorites bike rides.

Despite all coming to a standstill, it made me believe in the power of hope, the power of magic and the power of certainty. May this teach us to respect our community, the people in and around us, the medical personnel and paramedics, manual scavengers, sanitation workers, janitors and all those working in positions to support us.

Let us make the best of this time and appreciate the friendship and connection we have built with our near and dear ones, learn new skills, brush up on a hobby, explore new music, dance to our hearts’ content, read a book, nurture a plant, unleash our inner Picasso or just relax. Much of this only by staying indoors!

Have a safe and healthy quarantine everyone!
