Human Rights Campaign Participation in Holocaust Memorial Day

This morning on Twitter, Human Rights Campaign (@HRC) tweeted in support of Holocaust Memorial Day expressing how important it is to remember this cruel time in our world’s history. They also honored the late Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor that dedicated much of his life to educating others of the importance of human rights. The response to Human Rights Campaign’s post was that of support and understanding for those that lost their lives during this tragic time in our history. With 3.3k retweets, 6.1k favorites and 123 comments, users had much to say on the post regarding our current state of affairs with other countries and their support of Holocaust Memorial Day.

As someone that has visited concentration camps in the past and has visited sites such as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, I appreciate the understanding of the people contributing their supportive thoughts and opinions on this post. It is important that people understand the importance of remembering and honoring days such as these because it reminds us of our world’s ugly past and why we must stand up for what is right and rebel against hatred. Holocaust Memorial Day is not just about remembering the six million victims that died but educating future generations on why bigotry, hatred, etc. can be so detrimental to our society.

I believe that Human Rights Campaign was wise to tweet their support of today’s remembrance of the Holocaust because they are leaders in promoting equality and civil rights for not only the LGBTQ but people all over the world. Their advocacy for civil rights allows their massive following to be educated and learn about what is currently going on in the world and see what discrimination and hate can lead to.
