Letter to Her Majesty the Queen

The Royal Wedding was an epic of rebirth, rags to riches, and more

Dear Her Majesty the Queen,

A thousand thanks to you and your minions for hosting quite the do on Saturday.

You gave the world what the American writer Mark Twain — you’ve heard of him? — would call a “good story well told.”

Please forgive me for what may appear to be condescension, as I am sure you are well aware of these classic narrative themes and need no review.

Nonetheless…one by one we go:

While the Kappa House at Northwestern University may sound posh — trust me it’s not, I lived there once— Megan’s move to Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace definitely counts as rags to riches.

And Prince Harry? He quested for sure, and there’s tabloid trash-talk to prove it.

But we rooted for his voyage and return. Military service and charity work redeemed him.

And, as in any good Shakespearean comedy, all’s well that ends well, and Harry’s got his girl.

At last, there’s rebirth.Or is there?

With all due respect, the whole Royal White Privilege Monarchy thing is kinda over. But the presence of the African American preacher and choir were a marvelous touch. Indeed, I do hope it was sincere, as this Royal story will no doubt play out for many decades — even centuries — to come.

I wish you and your family the best as you learn and grow, and embrace the future.
