Hopeful Goads

About Me:

My name is Brandon Morgan, and I am currently a 25 year old teacher in the Greater Boston Area. Originally from Virginia, I came to the Northeast for my undergraduate and graduate degrees, and I suppose I am sticking around for the moment. My hobbies include reading, writing, climbing, running, and spending time with people I care about.

The Purpose:

This is the first blog/story I have ever written online , and I approach the task with great tentativeness. I find myself at somewhat of an impasse in terms of its reception. On one hand, I hope the things written serve to be helpful and applicable to those that read it. On the other hand, I am completely unoffended even if things are not received well. That being said, I welcome any and all feedback concerning things that may be written, and also your personal feedback and opinions. So, let’s move on to the purpose of the blog.

Inspired by Dag Hammarskjold’s Markings, Hopeful Goads is simply a series of helpful expressions, reflections, quotes, poems, experiences, or even stories that I find helpful in my daily walk with God. As a Christian, navigating the world can be difficult. This is especially true facing the cliché paradigm of being “in the world, but not of the world.” Hopeful Goads seeks to express what this means from a personal perspective. The various blog entries will seek to express various emotions to show a full-bodied perspective of what a walk with God may look like and how emotional discomfort can be converted into a logical response.

Now, one thing that needs to be stated is that Hopeful Goads is not an online journal entry. The various entries may describe themes that I endure, but very rarely will I add personal situations (at least that’s my frame of mind now). That being said, I fully admit I am not perfect, and I will not be right all of the time. If I am being insincere or untruthful about something, I gladly welcome feedback. With this blog, I like to take the Bruce Lee fighting method approach. When talking about Jeet Kune Do, his form of martial arts, Lee mentioned, “Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own.”

So, that’s enough about the blog, I think we’re ready to hop into the first Hopeful Goad:

There’s an understanding we all must come to

That everything we say

Has the possibility of helping or harming another

How much more selective we would be with our words

If we took into account the consequences.
